Position Description:

Seeking creative, enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals as post-doctoral scholars to work in the laboratory of Kumar Narayanan   (https://narayanan.lab.uiowa.edu/) at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine, Iowa City, IA.

The  Narayanan Lab is focused on how dopamine affects the neural circuitry of cognitive control, particularly in timing – or decisions of when to move.  Dr. Narayanan’s  lab studies the prefrontal cortex and striatum of rodents with the best available neuroscientific techniques – neuronal ensemble recording, optogenetics, fiber photometry, calcium imaging, two-photon imaging, all in awake/behaving model systems.  Being able to correlate data from these techniques to work in humans matters to patients suffering from diseases affecting frontal cortex and striatum.

The Narayanan Lab is a part of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Neurology at the University of Iowa.  It is located within the Pappajohn Biodiscovery Building.  Dr. Narayanan and the Iowa Neuroscience Institute are committed to the development of trainees.  In 6 years, trainees in the lab have gotten 3 NRSAs, 2 mentored NARSAD grants, and 1 K award.  There are ample professional development resources and Dr. Narayanan’s goal is to launch trainees in pursuit of their goals.

Iowa City is a vibrant mid-sized city that perennially ranks in the top 10 as a "Best Place to Live”. It is the first UNESCO City of Literature in the U.S. and hosts a wide variety of cultural, artistic, and sporting events year-round.
