Benefits Overview

The University of Iowa is a leader in the Big Ten providing a comprehensive benefit package. Depending upon your employment classification, benefit options include:

Benefits Plan

The University offers a full benefits plan that allows you to match your benefit dollars to your personal needs; one of the few such plans in higher education.

Spending Accounts

The University provides the option to deposit pre-tax money to use toward eligible health and dependent care expenses. Post-doctoral scholars whose salary is subject to state and federal taxes are eligible to participate.

Paid Leave

The University provides an annual paid leave of 15 working days and annual sick leave of 18 working days.

Participation in a Retirement Plan is mandatory for scholars with taxable income. The scholar has a choice of participation in either the IPERS (Iowa Public Employee Retirement System) plan or TIAA-CREF. Both the University and the scholar contribute to the plan elected.
