Work Schedule

Part/Full TimeFull Time Position
Hours:7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
Work Week:Regular
Days Off: Sun,Mon
Details: Position works Tuesday - Saturday with Sunday and Monday off.
Additional Hours:Position will have occasional mandatory overtime and works a rotating holiday schedule. Position may rotate to other facilities within OAR to fill in for absent staff.

Desired Qualifications:Desire an application that is thorough including a complete work history listing specific duties and care performed. Have ability to communicate effectively with others and to follow oral and written instructions. Be detail oriented.
Duties:1. Performs all the duties and responsibilities of Animal Caretaker I.

2. Performs or assists investigators in technical work of obtaining tissue, milk, blood, urine, and stool samples.

3. Performs treatments as directed by supervisor or veterinary staff. Euthanizes animals, as directed.

4. Maintains breeding colonies, herds, or flocks including mating of animals and care of young.

5. Follows approved SOP for processing incoming animals of each species.

6. Maintains inventories and notifies supervisor of supply needs.

7. Trains, instructs or supervises research staff, Animal Caretaker I's, laborers, and students as directed.

8. In animal facility, sets-up, uses, and maintains specialized laboratory equipment and/or completes USDA forms for procurement of animals as required.

9. Prepare animals for shipping from the university, including shipping container preparation and record keeping.


1. Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.

2. Two years experience and/or education in animal care work, or demonstrated ability in the required skills, or

3. American Association of Laboratory Animal Science full certification as an Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician with a minimum of one year applicable work experience.

4. Possession of a valid state or commercial driver's license, as required.
