Position Description:

The University of Iowa Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is seeking a Post-Baccalaureate Intern to advance research in a Women’s Health research lab focused on improving the health of mothers and children before, during, and after pregnancy. The ideal candidate will be able to function very independently, but also work well as a member of a large team.



Characteristics Duties and Responsibilities:




  • Perform research activities based upon protocols developed by other research staff or principal investigator of the research project.

  • Process and store human and animal biological samples (such as tissue, blood, urine)

  • Maintain animal colony, perform mouse genotyping, and participate in animal-based experiments

  • Read and review articles as directed.

  • Read, understand, and implement protocols.

  • Arrange, plan, and execute daily activities to prepare for research protocols.

  • Consent study participants

  • Set up and operate research materials or equipment.

  • Perform procedures assuring fidelity to protocols.

  • Adhere to safety and compliance guidelines.

  • Collect, record and consolidate data as directed by the Principal Investigator.

  • Track progress of research activities.

  • Adhere to Quality Assurance protocols to maintain validity and integrity of research data.

  • Collect and track data, perform data entry for reports and maintain records of methods used.

  • Prepare materials for reports.

  • Prepare bibliographies and abstracts for publications.

  • May present results/findings at team and departmental meetings.



 



Percent of Time: 100%



Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00-5:00pm. However flexibility will be needed as will require occasional weekends

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelors or Arts or Science Degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to use and maintain general lab equipment

  • Evidence of research involving the cardiovascular system

  • Exerience with nucleic acid isolation and gene expression assays

  • Experience with iPSC lines

  • Able to use Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)

  • Experience working in a clinical or research lab

  • Skilled in cell culture
