Position Description:

The Physical Activity & Women’s Health Lab, led by Professor Kara Whitaker in the Department of Health and Human Physiology, has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Intern.



The Research Intern will primarily be responsible for managing day-to-day operations of a multi-center observational cohort study investigating whether sedentary behavior, physical activity, and sleep patterns in pregnancy are related to growth patterns and cardiovascular health in children. Comfort interacting with parents and young children (age 2) is critical.



Responsibilities will include implementation and management of recruitment/retention strategies, data collection and quality control, data entry and management, participating in multi-site study meetings, training and supervising new lab members, and additional lab related tasks as needed.



This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension for up to a total of two years depending on funding and lab needs.



SALARY AND BENEFITS




  • Starting salary of $36,500 in the first year;

  • Fifteen days paid time off per year plus paid University holidays.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor’s degree in health-related field (e.g., health and human physiology, exercise science, public health, nursing).

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience working with children.

  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

  • Experience with word processing and spreadsheet programs and the ability to learn new technical skills quickly.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, including the ability to organize data effectively and keep accurate lab records.

  • Flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends to accommodate participate schedules.

  • US citizenship or permanent residency, which is a requirement of the post-baccalaureate research intern program.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in a research or clinical setting, especially related to physical activity assessment and/or child health.

  • Interested in lifestyle-related research.

  • Familiarity with REDCap and Epic.

  • Knowledge of IRB documentation and processes.

  • Experience with pediatric and adult anthropometric and blood pressure measurements.

  • Knowledge of methods to assess arterial stiffness (pulse wave velocity).
