Position Description:

The Health, Brain, & Cognition Lab is looking for a motivated Research Intern to lead physical exercise training and assessments of fitness and physical activity with middle age and older adults. Gain valuable experience in research and clinical skills for health assessments and health coaching. Learn more about the lab here: https://hbc.lab.uiowa.edu. This is a one-year position with the possibility of extension for up to one additional year.



The research intern will:




  • Lead submaximal exercise tests.

  • Utilize health coaching principles to lead physical activity behavior change orientation.

  • Manage Actigraph accelerometers.

  • Consult with human subjects who are the research participants weekly through a 12-week training program.

  • Have the opportunity to be involved with research, including opportunities for developing independent research projects.

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in health sciences or related field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a US citizen or permanent resident, which is a requirement of the research intern program.

  • Must intend to apply to medical or graduate school.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with exercise testing and exercise training or health coaching.
