Position Description:

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is seeking a motivated research intern who is interested in ophthalmology to assist in human clinical trials. Duties of the Research Intern include:




  • Assist in the coordination of multiple clinical research protocols.

  • Record questionnaire and trial-related health data and maintain study databases.

  • Recruit and enroll new patients for studies.

  • Organize visits for patients in clinical trials.

  • Assist with regulatory submissions and IRB documentation.

  • Help clinical trials in daily research activities.

  • Provide research team support.

  • Follow all departmental, institutional, and federal regulations related to approved human subject research and the conduct of clinical research.  Obtain certification for specific human research conduct of clinical trials (CITI Training, or protocol specific).

  • Demonstrate a willingness to carry out responsibilities and to have a positive approach to accomplishing work, and a communications skillset for interactions with patients, staff and administration

Education Requirement:

The candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to health sciences



 
Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Experience working independently and in a group setting

  • An ability to coordinate multiple projects

  • Proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Word and  Adobe Acrobat

  • Familiarity with databases and data entry.

Certifications:

None

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of medical terminology


  • Experience in a healthcare or ophthalmology or setting




  • Knowledge or previous coursework in the research process




  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and excellent time management skills
