Position Description:

We are seeking a Research Intern to help with basic research tasks revolving around the maintenance and study of c. elegans lines. This Research Internship within the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics provides a unique opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary group involving collaborators from the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, and the Department of Neurology. Our research focuses on neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. Much of this work involves testing and evaluating new therapeutic drugs and new biological targets. Work done in this lab will provide opportunities to build qualitative, quantitative, and critical reasoning skills. This position is ideal for someone ultimately interested  in a career in research, attending medical school or pursuing graduate training in other health professions.



            Under the direction of the investigators and research staff, you will be involved with carrying out and developing research protocols, performing literature reviews, database entry/management, and completing a wide range of activities to fulfill the needs of research studies.

Education Requirement:

A Bachelors degree is required.

Required Qualifications:

Dependable, highly-motivated, interest in medical research and attention to detail is required.

Desirable Qualifications:

Good time management skills are desirable.



Effective communicaton is desirable.



Strong organizational skills are desirable.
