Position Description:

Within the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics, Pulmonary Medicine Division promote the University's research mission by supporting scientific, scholarly and creative activities through scientific inquiry, open discovery, dissemination of new knowledge, administering programs, procedures and policies to assure compliance and to advance research, technology commercialization, or economic development.  The Research Intern will conduct experimental tests and procedures in a research laboratory using the techniques of microbiology, microscopy, and molecular biology. 

Position Responsibilities

  • Execute experimental procedures using recombinant DNA techniques, including PCR, cloning, and construction of plasmids.

  • Perform studies using plasmids and bacteriophages to express transgenes in bacteria.

  • Perform basic animal care and animal dissection.

  • Perform studies of host-pathogen interaction using bacteria and model airway systems.

  • Translate and interpret data and assist in the planning of data presentations. 

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's degree in science, engineering or a related field.

Required Qualifications:


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.

  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills. 

  • Prior experience with microbiology research

  • Experience in data analysis and presentation.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in microbiology or in molecular cloning.   

  •   Prior experience in caring for laboratory animals.     

  • Prior experience in data analysis and presentation. 

  • Prior experience in statistics or computer programming.
