Position Description:

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Steven Offer, Ph.D., in the Department of Pathology, University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. The Offer laboratory researches genetic and epigenetic contributions to differential drug response (including development of drug-related adverse events, drug resistance, and drug efficacy) in cancer therapy. Applicants should have a strong background in mammalian cell culture and basic molecular biology techniques, with a working knowledge of cancer biology. The selected candidate will be expected to work independently while interacting in a collaborative environment.

Education Requirement:

PhD, MD/PhD, or MD with significant bench research experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English

  • Experience with sterile technique and culturing cell lines

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques, including western blot, molecular cloning, PCR, and other common skills in cell and molecular biology

  • Working knowledge of cancer biology and principles of anti-cancer pharmacology

  • Experience working with large datasets

  • Experience with bioinformatic approaches, including the analysis of next-generation sequencing data sets

  • Experience with CRISPR-based approaches for gene editing and gene activation/inactivation
