| Position Description: | The Carver College of Medicine at The University of Iowa invites applications and nominations for the position of Director of the Division of Hospital Medicine in the Department of Internal Medicine. The Carver College of Medicine is a nationally recognized academic medical center and ranks among the top 25 public medical schools in National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding. As Iowa’s only comprehensive academic medical center, it serves a unique role within the state and region by providing specialized care for patients with the most complex medical conditions. The Department of Internal Medicine is an integral part of UI Health Care which is a partnership between the College of Medicine and The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United States and has close affiliation with the adjacent Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center. With more than 50 faculty members, the Division of Hospital Medicine provides meaningful contributions to the tripartite mission. Divisional faculty and advanced practice providers (APPs) provide exceptional multidisciplinary patient care, make important contributions to the educational mission by serving as the core in-patient internal medicine education experience exposing residents to the broadest range of patients and creating an incredibly rich clinical experience, and are committed to advancing clinical research as a driver of innovation. The division provides high-quality clinical care to patients admitted across our multi-hospital health center - Medical Center University (MCU), Medical Center Downtown (MCD), Medical Center North Liberty (MCNL), and the Iowa Rehabilitation Hospital - and within the Presurgical Evaluation and Anemia Management Clinics. Division faculty play an important role in educating and mentoring medical students, residents, and other health care professionals. Division faculty are actively involved in clinical research and quality improvement initiatives. The Division Director will work collaboratively with departmental and health system leadership to further strengthen and advance the division’s clinical, educational, and research missions. Serving as the chief representative of the division, the Director will advocate for the division’s interests while contributing to the broader goals of the department and health system. Responsibilities include faculty recruitment, appointments, and evaluations; managing educational, clinical, and research programs; fiscal planning and management; and both short-term and long-term strategic planning.
