| Position Description: | The Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology (HSHP) is seeking multiple instructors with a focus on Human Physiology and Exercise Physiology laboratory courses. These are full-time, non-tenure track appointments for one academic year beginning in August 2026 and are renewable thereafter in one-year increments. Duties of this position include teaching a variety of introductory and advanced human physiology laboratory courses within the Health and Human Physiology curriculum. The primary focus is on physiology labs (HHP: 2410, and HHP:3550) with the possibility to teach Exercise Physiology labs (HHP:3410) or Anatomy Labs (HHP:2110 and HHP:3115) or Exercise Testing (HHP:4240) as needed. The instructor will teach several sections of laboratory courses, hold office hours, attend/ lead lab meetings, grade student assignments, and professionally communicate with students and the instructional team. The instructor will work closely with the course supervisor and support staff to efficiently run HSHP teaching labs. The hours of this position are based upon the times of assigned lab sections, scheduled office hours, and other lab meetings. Therefore, this position does not hold traditional hours in a given week. The Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology is a thriving program with multiple majors, minors, and focus areas. The department has shown significant growth over the past several years and is currently the largest department at the University of Iowa with 2400+ undergraduate students across six majors including Human Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Studies, Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation Management, and Therapeutic Recreation. To accommodate this growth, a new six-story, $249 million Health Science Academic Building that will house the Departments of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Communication Sciences and Disorders, is scheduled to be completed in 2026. This new building will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach and engagement, experiential education, and cutting-edge biomedical, clinical, and community health-related research.
