Position Description: | The University of Iowa School of Music seeks a collaborative colleague to complement the string area at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor of Viola, beginning in the fall of 2026. This is a full-time, one-year position, renewable up to three years pending positive reviews and budgetary approval. The School of Music provides conservatory-like instruction at a Big 10 research institution, offering graduate and/or undergraduate degrees in composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, music theory, music therapy, musicology, and performance. The School enrolls approximately 450 majors and has more than 50 full-time faculty members, situated in the Voxman Music Building, a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 2016 in downtown Iowa City. Nestled along the Iowa River and surrounded by rural rolling hills, Iowa City perennially ranks as one of America’s best places to live. Featuring a college-town atmosphere with big-city cultural richness, the Iowa City area has something for everyone including Big 10 sports and world-class music, literature, dance, and theater. Duties: Teaching studio viola to graduate and undergraduate students; other duties as per the needs of the School of Music.
