Position Description:

The Department of Asian and Slavic Languages and Literatures in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa is searching for a Visiting Instructor in Chinese Language for the academic year 2024-2025. The initial appointment period for this position is one year with the possibility of extension for a total of three years. The University has a variety of faculty appointment types, and there are times when visiting instructor lines can be converted to longer-term appointments. Responsibilities include teaching three language courses per semester (one of which may be a linguistics, translation, or other course depending on department needs and the candidate’s area of specialization) and assisting with extra-curricular activities and programmatic service for the Chinese Program.

The salary for this position is $38,070.

Education Requirement:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Chinese Pedagogy, Chinese Linguistics, or a relevant field in hand by start date

Required Qualifications:

  • Native or near-native fluency in English and Chinese

  • Experience in teaching (as an instructor of record or as a TA) Chinese language courses at the college/university level in the U.S.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to effectively collaborate with others in programmatic service
