Position Description:

The Translation Program within the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the 2024-25 Faculty Fellow in Residence.



The University of Iowa Translation Program is pleased to announce the Translation Faculty Fellows in Residence program. Fellows are selected through a national competition, beginning immediately. Candidates must hold a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in literary translation, translation studies, or comparative literature. Successful candidates must have a record of publications and experience in college-level teaching.



Fellows are expected to be in residence for the academic year and participate fully in the life of the Translation Program.



The Fellow will:




  • Receive an appointment as a Faculty Fellow in Residence Visiting Assistant Professor in Translation for a one-year residency.  This is a 9-month position that includes a salary, competitive benefits, and office space.

  • Design and teach courses at the undergraduate level (6 courses per academic year (3-3 course load) in the Division of World Languages, Literatures, and Culture)

Education Requirement:

  • Candidates must hold a terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in literary translation, translation studies, or comparative literature in hand by start date.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience in college-level teaching

  • A record of publications. The translation language is open, with preference given to one or more of the languages taught in the Division of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures
