Position Description:

University of Iowa Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is seeking to hire a pediatric health psychologist. Appointment rank is open and may be to either the tenure track or clinical (non-tenure) track consistent with clinical experience and research interest.  Appointment rank to Instructor of Pediatrics (non-tenure or clinical track) may also be considered. The individual selected will join the Division of Pediatric Psychology in the Department of Pediatrics.



Clinic services provided within Pediatric Psychology include applied behavior analysis and treatment, neuropsychological assessment and brief therapy for health-related adjustment for a wide range of chronic health conditions. The selected individual will participate in the interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary evaluation and treatment of children and adolescents served through the University of Iowa Stead Family Pediatric Specialty Clinics, with opportunities to expand clinical services across divisions including in Pediatric Gastroenterology, Transplant, Hematology, Nephrology, and/or Neurology, depending on the selected individual’s experience and interest. In addition, the Department seeks to expand inpatient consultation/liaison service for pediatric patients who are admitted for acute or chronic medical conditions. The position also includes supervision of psychology practicum students and postdoctoral fellows as available.

The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital trains 50 pediatric resident physicians. For its 2023-24 edition of “Best Children’s Hospitals,” U.S. News & World Report ranked UI Stead Family Children's Hospital in six pediatric specialties: neonatology, diabetes and endocrinology, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, and urology.

Education Requirement:

Must hold a PhD or PsyD degree in Psychology from an APA accredited doctoral program

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of an APA accredited internship and postdoctoral residency



License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa



Health Service Provider or eligible for Health Service Provider in the State of Iowa



Experience treating children with chronic conditions and their families



Experience as a member of an interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary team



Outpatient and inpatient experience in a hospital/medical center

Desirable Qualifications:

Expertise in evidence-based intervention for youth with health conditions



Clinical experience in Pediatric Psychology in an academic medical setting



Demonstrated excellence in research and clinical care



Clinical teaching of students across a variety of disciplines



Evidence of scholarly activity



Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills



Demonstrated experience promoting an inclusive culture in the workforce and academic
