Position Description:

The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences & Experimental Therapeutics invites applications for a faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Professor (12 month, tenured/tenure-track) with interests in pharmacological and/or toxicological sciences, who will direct a basic science research program that synergizes with ongoing biomedical research initiatives at the University of Iowa (e.g. cancer, neuroscience, environmental health, metabolism/metabolic diseases or cardiovascular diseases). Applicants should have a Ph.D. in a related discipline, and relevant postdoctoral research experience or work experience is sought for applicants applying at the Assistant Professor level. A successful candidate is expected to establish or already have established a self-sustaining, nationally recognized research program through extramural funding and have demonstrated an exceptional record of published scholarship. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and Experimental Therapeutics currently consists of 20 faculty members, and more than 50 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and visiting scientists who participate in the research programs within the department. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary and collaborative, with faculty members having broad expertise in basic mechanisms of disease, drug discovery and delivery, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacogenomics, medicinal chemistry and pharmacokinetics.

Preferred applicants will have translational or applied research interests that align with one or more of these interdisciplinary research centers or institutes.

Education Requirement:

Ph.D. in pharmacological/toxicological sciences, biochemistry or a related discipline.

Qualifications for Rank:




  • For Assistant Professor, previous postdoctoral research, training, or work experience, a strong publication record, and a clear strategy for securing extramural research funding. 

  • For Associate Professor, a demonstrated track record of sustained extramural research funding and outstanding record of published scholarship.

  • For Professor, in addition to meeting the requirements at the rank of Associate, a full Professor must demonstrate unmistakable national peer recognition in their area of research.
