Position Description:

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured faculty position in Bacteriology at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This tenure-track position includes a 12-month appointment, fringe benefits, competitive start-up package, newly renovated office and laboratory space, and access to state-of-the-art core facilities, instrumentation, and BSL3 and animal BSL3 space. The primary appointment of the faculty member will be in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Successful applicants will be expected to establish and maintain an extramurally funded research program and to participate in teaching activities in the Department. Teaching responsibilities may include bacterial genetics, bacterial physiology, or bacterial pathogenesis.

Education Requirement:

All applicants must have a Ph.D. and/or M.D.

Required Qualifications:

All applicants must have postdoctoral research experience.



All applicants must have a strong record of research accomplishments.



Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have an established and funded research program.



Applicants at the Associate Professor level must have demonstrated ability to mentor and teach Ph.D. graduate students. 

Desirable Qualifications:

All areas of bacteriology will be considered. We seek applicants studying bacterial pathogenesis, bacterial gene regulation and stress responses, bacterial cell biology, bacterial behaviors, antimicrobial resistance, and how bacteria adapt to different environments, including in a eukaryotic host or complex polymicrobial community.
