The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences invites applications to fill the Ketchel Family Chair. The successful applicant for this position will have a productive, visible, and well-funded research program that exemplifies an integrative approach to the study of behavior. The position is open to an associate or full professor who uses behavioral, cognitive, neurobiological, developmental, clinical, social, biobehavioral, and/or computational approaches to understanding learning and behavioral change in humans or non-human species. The appointment includes a generous startup package and an annual unrestricted research fund. Review of applications begins on October 3, 2022, and continues on a rolling basis until the position is filled. The position begins as early as August 2023.

This faculty position continues an extended period of departmental investment, highlighted most recently by the completion of the new Psychological and Brain Sciences Building. Our faculty are active contributors to the university’s vibrant neuroscience community that includes the Iowa Neuroscience Institute, an NIH-supported Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience, and a popular undergraduate major in neuroscience. The Behavioral-Biomedical Interface Training Program, which is also supported by NIH, creates additional opportunities for integrative and cross-disciplinary research. The DeLTA Center brings together a campus-wide community of researchers interested in all aspects of learning and development.
There are extensive opportunities for collaboration with researchers in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Carver College of Medicine, the College of Engineering, the College of Education, and the College of Public Health. Departmental faculty have ongoing collaborations with colleagues in such departments as Neuroscience and Pharmacology, Psychiatry, Biology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiology, Computer Science, Communication Sciences and Disorders, Public Health, Otolaryngology, and Obstetrics and Gynecology. The university also supports a variety of institutes, centers, and facilities, including the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, the Magnetic Resonance Research Facility, which includes research-dedicated 3T and 7T scanners, the Central Microscopy Research Facility, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Injury Prevention Research Center, and the Iowa Institute of Human Genetics
