Position Description:

The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry is conducting a search for a Department Executive Officer in the Department of Oral Pathology, Radiology & Medicine.  This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor or Professor level. 



Major responsibilities include: 




  • providing strong leadership in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service to the department;

  • collaborating with collegiate leadership;

  • developing and mentoring faculty;

  • maintaining close cooperation with other departments;

  • recruiting clinicians and researchers to fulfill the mission of the College;

  • participating actively in the department’s faculty practice; and

  • cultivating an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faculty, and staff within the department and the College.



The position is available August 1, 2021; screening begins immediately.  

Education Requirement:

Applicants must have: 




  • D.D.S./D.M.D. or equivalent;

  • completion of a CODA-accredited advanced training program in Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, or Oral Medicine, or Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology;

  • Master’s degree or higher;

Required Qualifications:

  • Board certification by the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology, or Oral Medicine, or Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology; 

  • 5 or more years of relevant administrative/budget experience;

  • 5 or more years record of effective teaching;

  • record of protocol-driven research and/or scholarly activity; and

  • record of activity fostering a climate that values and engages diversity in all its forms to enliven and make more inclusive the work of the department/College.

Desirable Qualifications:

Desirable qualifications include: 




  • 10 or more years of clinical practice experience;

  • strong research accomplishments with extramural funding;

  • 5 or more years record of mentoring students, residents, and or faculty;

  • demonstrated leadership accomplishments at national and/or international levels;

  • ability to develop new research initiatives; and

  • ability to foster collaborative interactions among faculty from different departments and colleges.
