Position Description:

The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry is conducting a search for a Department Executive Officer in the Department of Orthodontics.  This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position at the Associate Professor or Professor level.  Major responsibilities include: 

  • provide strong leadership to the department;

  • collaborate with collegiate leadership and administration;

  • support faculty development and mentorship; maintain close cooperation with other departments;

  • maintain an independent or collaborative research/scholarship program;

  • actively participate in service activities at the collegiate, regional, and national levels;

  • maintain an active involvement in the clinical/didactic teaching efforts of the department in Orthodontics at the pre/postdoctoral levels;

  • actively participate in the departmental faculty practice plan; and

  • cultivate an environment of inclusion and respect for students, faculty, and staff within the department/College.

Education Requirement:

  • D.D.S./D.M.D. or equivalent;

  • completion of an ADA-accredited advanced training program in Orthodontics;

Required Qualifications:

  • record of effective teaching and mentoring of faculty and/or students;

  • record of hypothesis/protocol-driven research and/or scholarly activity;

  • record of success in acquiring extramural grant support;

  • record of relevant administrative and leadership experience; and

  • record of activity fostering a climate that values and engages diversity in all its forms to enliven and make more inclusive the work of the department/College.  


  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Orthodontics; 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent;

  • clinical practice experience;

  • ability to foster collaborative interactions among faculty from different departments and colleges;

  • demonstrated ability to develop new research initiatives; and

  • demonstrated experience working effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
