Position Description:

Faculty Position:  The University of Iowa, Department of Health and Human Physiology, Health and Physical Activity Skills Program (HPAS): Assistant in Instruction.



The non-tenure track position is for the academic year 2019-2020, beginning January 2020 and renewable for a total of three years (2020-2022) and renewable thereafter in three year increments pending collegiate approval and demonstrated excellence in teaching.  Duties of this position include teaching a variety of physical activity skills courses and wellness courses (examples include relaxation techniques, flexibility, racquetball, badminton, table tennis), developing and revising curriculum for HPAS courses, and developing new HPAS courses.



Screening of applications begins in early October and continues until the position is filled.

Education Requirement:

Minimum of a BA/BS degree in a field related to Recreation and Sport Studies, Health Promotion, Physical Education, or Health and Human Physiology, or with an equivalent combination of relevant education, certifications, and work experience.

Required Qualifications:

Experience coaching or instruction of sport skills/fitness programs. Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as excellent time management and organizational skills.

Certifications:

CPR/AED certification required before the first day of class.

Desirable Qualifications:

Master’s degree in a related area, or an equivalent combination of relevant education, certifications, and work experience.  American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, or equivalent certification. Experience in teaching Instructional Physical Activity courses in higher education.
