Position Description:

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is recruiting faculty candidates in all Pediatric subspecialties for its Program In Pediatric Research. The mission of the Program for Pediatric Research is to support research into the causes and cures of childhood illness and the improvement of child health. These tenure track positions will support promising investigators in basic, translational, and clinical research in any subspecialty of pediatrics, including Allergy-Immunology, Pulmonology, Cardiology, Child and Community Health, Critical Care, Developmental-Behavioral Medicine, Endocrinology and Diabetes, Gastroenterology, General Pediatrics, Genetics, Hematology/Oncology, Infectious Diseases, Neonatology, Nephrology and Dialysis, Neurology, Pediatric Psychology, and Rheumatology, or any related area. Candidate’s rank will be dependent on qualifications and experience. The Program provides a generous start-up package, protected time, as well as mentorship for early-career investigators.

The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 42nd overall and 20th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY17.  The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 13th among public institutions for 2018, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 27th overall and 13th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY17. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2018-19 University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in four pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, neonatology, nephrology, and orthopedics, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 190-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017. 

Education Requirement:


Required Qualifications:

All applicants must have a relevant doctoral degree and a record of accomplishment in the area of pediatric research

Demonstrated track record in productivity of scientific publications and peer-reviewed external funding

Must meet federal grant requirements, including U.S. citizenship or permanent residency status

Desirable Qualifications:

Strength in teaching

Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills

Current federal funding

An interest in interdisciplinary research programs
