Two Open Rank Professors in Counseling Psychology



The Department of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations at the University of Iowa invites applications for two 9-month, tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of assistant, associate or full professor in our APA-accredited counseling psychology program, to begin August 21, 2019.



We are seeking individuals who are undertaking rigorous sustainable research programs, pursuing external funding, and publishing scholarship with an impact on the field of counseling psychology (dependent on rank: Associate or Full will have demonstrated experience, Assistant level should show potential).



The successful candidates will provide instruction and be involved in the programmatic aspects of our APA accredited counseling psychology doctoral program including training students to deliver psychological services in a variety of practicum settings.  They will advise doctoral level students and supervise clinical experiences. In addition, the successful candidates will be expected to pursue and secure external funding, and participate in the activities of professional organizations.  While our program emphasizes broad counseling psychology training, we are seeking to build upon existing partnership with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics to offer a health psychology focus area.



Responsibilities



Major responsibilities include: conduct an active, funded program of research and scholarship; teach graduate-level courses consistent with program and departmental needs; advise and mentor graduate students in the counseling psychology program; and provide program, department, college, and professional service.  The successful candidates will work in full collaboration with faculty members in counseling psychology to consider new initiatives within the college and university.

About the Program



The Counseling Psychology program at The University of Iowa is a doctoral program that was granted full accreditation by the American Psychological Association in the Spring of 1983. The program aims to train health service psychologists who are competent in counseling and psychological services informed by the integration of diverse scholarship. Our program strives to produce counseling psychologists who promote psychology as both a profession and a science and who apply acquired skills to improving psychological services to diverse communities. We are seeking to expand on our existing partnerships with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and the Iowa City Veteran's Administration Hospital and to build in the area of health psychology. Given our belief that the profession of psychology is constantly changing to meet human needs, our faculty and students represent a variety of backgrounds and interests and serve a diverse array of communities.

Education Requirement:

Prospective candidates must have earned a doctoral degree in counseling, clinical, or school psychology from an APA-accredited program by August 2019.

Required Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of scholarly productivity or promise of scholarly productivity (rank dependent);

  2. Potential for securing external funds for research, training, and program development;

  3. Ability to work collaboratively and with diverse populations

  4. Ability to teach, advise, and mentor graduate students in research and practice

  5. Licensed or eligible for licensure as a psychologist in Iowa.

Desirable Qualifications:

  1. Evidence of scholarly productivity in the area of health psychology for one position.

  2. Established record or evidence of strong potential for obtaining external funding in health psychology for one position and open area of research within counseling psychology for the second position.
