Position Description:

The Division of General Internal Medicine of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking to hire a BC/BE physician investigator with a focus in rural health research. The successful candidate will be hired as an Associate, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor in the Tenure Track. Rank will be based upon experience and/or productivity.  This will be a split appointment with funding being 5/8th VA and 3/8th University of Iowa. The successful applicant will be expected to develop an independently-funded rural health research program in collaboration with investigators in the Center for Comprehensive Access and Delivery Research and Evaluation (CADRE) and the Veterans Rural Health Resource Center (VRHRC) at the Iowa City VA.  Opportunities for collaboration and faculty appointment are available at the Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) and Center for Rural Prevention Research within the University of Iowa College of Public Health.



Possible areas of focus may include, but are not limited to: development and evaluation of interventions to improve access to high quality healthcare in rural settings, rural healthcare workforce, studies of health determinants and outcomes for rural populations, and rural health policy. Individuals hired at the Rank of Assistant Professor or higher are expected to have a track record of peer-reviewed publications and a clear plan for developing independent research funding in the area of rural health research.  Publications with a focus on Rural Health are desirable.



The successful candidate must have an MD degree and demonstrate evidence of advanced training in disciplines applicable to rural health research, such as clinical or basic epidemiology, health economics, outcomes research, demography, biostatistics, or related methodologies.  A MS, MPH, or PhD degree or equivalent in research methods or education is desired.  The successful candidate must be authorized to work in the U.S.
