Position Description:

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics is recruiting a full-time academic position in the Division of Neonatology at the level of Associate (non-track), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor on the tenure track.  The candidate will function as an integral member of the Division, participating in clinical research and teaching as well as patient care.  



The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine (CCOM) is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 39th overall and 18th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY15.  The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 12th among public institutions for FY2016, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 22nd overall and 10th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY15. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 43 pediatric residents.



The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.  University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center.  In 2016-17, University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in eight pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 189-bed children’s hospital is scheduled to open in December 2016.

Education Requirement:

Must Hold MD or MD, Ph.D.

Certifications:

Board certified in Pediatrics, board certified (or within 3 years of fellowship and board eligible) in neonatal-perinatal medicine.

Desirable Qualifications:

Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and patient/family interactions



Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills



Evidence of scholarly investigation



Experience in education of trainees and nurses



Evidence of leadership skills.



Evidence of successful attainment of extramural funding



Research interests in neonatal sepsis/inflammation to align with current research strengths within the Division of Neonatology and CCOM.
