Position Specific Summary:  

The Healthier Workforce Center of the Midwest is seeking a program coordinator for an opioid prevention initiative. The program coordinator will play a central role in advancing a statewide effort funded through opioid settlement funding and supported by Iowa Health and Human Services to reduce opioid‑related harm within the Iowa construction industry. This position supports an effort to increase industry awareness, develop and deliver overdose prevention training, and build long‑term sustainability through partnerships with intermediary organizations, employers, unions, and state agencies. 

The program coordinator will lead day-to-day project operations, manage relationships with construction industry partners, and ensure high‑quality delivery of overdose prevention programming, including naloxone training, across worksites statewide. This role requires strong organizational skills, comfort engaging with employers and workers, and the ability to translate public health strategies into practical, worksite‑ready tools. Hybrid work may be negotiable.

Key areas of responsibility (KAR) and specific job tasks

Operational and Financial Management

Support the creation and refinement of overdose prevention training materials, including naloxone education, overdose recognition, and supportive workplace policies. 

Oversee recruitment of worksites, coordinate training logistics, and support on-site or virtual delivery of overdose prevention programming. 

Plan, schedule, and facilitate project meetings, partner check-ins, and on-site training events across Iowa. 

Strategic Planning

Develop resource mapping guides to connect employers and workers with local treatment, recovery, and peer support resources. 

Assist in developing train‑the‑trainer materials, standardized toolkits, and dissemination products for long‑term program adoption. 

Communication and Outreach

Build and maintain relationships with intermediary organizations to embed prevention strategies into existing safety networks.

Contribute to awareness campaigns, presentations, and written materials that highlight overdose prevention strategies for the construction industry. 

Compliance

Maintain project documentation, training records, and reporting requirements to support compliance with funding agency expectations and program evaluation standards.

Quality Improvement

Support collection of training metrics, partner feedback, and implementation data. 

Leadership/Supervision

Provide training and guidance for new staff/current staff regarding study protocols.

Required qualifications

BA/BS or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Minimum 1 year of experience in program administration or coordination. 

Strong interpersonal skills and experience engaging with diverse stakeholders (e.g., employers, workers, unions, government partners).

Ability to use PowerPoint, social media, and other communication tools.

Excellent verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated experience collecting evaluation metrics (e.g., tracking participation, survey data), documenting activities, and generating reports. 

Valid driver’s license. 

Ability to travel within the State of Iowa is required. Ability to meet the University of Iowa Fleet Safety Program driving standard is required.

Desirable qualifications

Working knowledge of substance use disorders, overdose prevention, and/or recovery. 

Demonstrated experience delivering or supporting educational programs, ideally in workplace or community settings. 

Demonstrated experience with construction worksites, safety programs, or employer‑based training.

Experience with overdose response training or harm reduction strategies. 

Demonstrated experience with unions, trade associations, workforce development, and/or government agencies. 

Demonstrated ability to design or adapt training materials for adult learners. 

Demonstrated ability to anticipate challenges, propose solutions, and adapt to evolving project needs. 

Demonstrated ability to work independently with strong follow‑through. 

Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple tasks, timelines, and partners across a statewide initiative.  

Project dates: August 2026 – June 30, 2027

Position effort: 100% time

Travel for position: 40% time, across the state of Iowa

Work hours: Typically, 8 am – 5 pm, may include different times for travel and worksite visits.

Pay: $29.38 per hour
