A postdoctoral research scholar position is available in Dr. Michael Schnieders’ research lab at the Iowa Technology Institute in the College of Engineering. The initial appointment is funded for one year from the date of hire with the possibility of reappointment contingent on performance and available funds. Professor Michael Schnieders’ research interests are primarily in computational biomolecular engineering. This position will focus on developing methods to interpret missense variants in the context of inherited forms of hearing loss. They will be expected to independently collect and analyze of research data, troubleshoot experiments, and training graduate students and research assistants. They will also be responsible for the preparation of manuscripts related to his/her work. They will work in a rich environment in which faculty, post-doctoral fellows, research associates and graduate/undergraduate students regularly interact and conduct collaborative research studies. Therefore, communication and interpersonal skills are desired. Education Requirement: Ph.D. (or equivalent) in Biomedical Engineering or related field. Required Qualifications: · Proven ability to work independently and experience in deafness genetics. · Strong Java, Python, and/or CUDA software development skills. · Good communication and writing skills in English. Desirable Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in either of the following fields. · Protein biophysics and statistical mechanics · Genetics, dominant and recessive inheritance pattens · Biochemical mechanisms that contribute to hearing loss
