The University of Iowa Department of Neurosurgery is seeking a summer student researcher for the Human Brain Research Laboratory (HBRL) during the months of May 2026 - August 2026.

This position will conduct data collection and analysis for research projects studying brain physiology, including brain tumors and acute strokes.

Responsibilities include:

·         Data management, including both data collection and data entry. This includes research electrophysiological, imaging, behavioral and demographic data.

·         Maintain research databases (i.e., detailed and accurate records of all data collected and processed).

·         Low level data preprocessing and analysis.

·         Assistance with preparation of research presentations and manuscripts.

·         Assistance with experimental protocols carried out in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit and the Operating Room environment.

·         Complete other tasks as needed.

The ideal candidate will have a background or interest in neuroscience, particularly human intracranial electrophysiology.

Schedule: Maximum 40 hours per week during summer academic break. This position is expected to last May 2026 - August 2026.

Location: This position will work within the University of Iowa Health Care University Campus (200 Hawkins Dr., Iowa City, IA). Health screening compliances and patient medical health record training will be required at the time of hire. Hands-on training provided.

Required Qualifications:

• Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student at a higher education institution (e.g., Kirkwood, University of Northern Iowa, Iowa State University, Coe College, etc.).
• Must be able to communicate effectively with staff, faculty, patients, and the public. 
• Must be proficient in operating standard office equipment (e.g., computer, printer, scanner).
• Must have working knowledge of office software programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe products, as well as electronic meeting platforms such as Zoom.
• Must have basic knowledge of specialized research software (Matlab and Presentation).
• Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.

Desired Qualifications:

• Experience working in a healthcare setting is preferred.
• Experience working with human intracranial electrophysiology is preferred.
