The University of Iowa Department of Athletics seeks applications for a Temporary Assistant Wrestling Coach. This is a full-time (at-will and FLSA-exempt) position which includes full University benefits. The University of Iowa is an NCAA Division I institution and a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Department of Athletics manages 22 varsity sports programs and related events with a workforce of approximately 250 regular employees and 300 temporary employees.  Responsibilities: The Assistant Coach is responsible for providing administrative, instructional and coaching assistance to the Head Coach with the purpose of building a successful, competitive intercollegiate sports program that also retains and graduates student-athletes.

 Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree (or international equivalent);
  • A minimum of two (2) years of wrestling coaching experience at the intercollegiate, club, or high school level or a combination of coaching, recruiting, administrative, collegiate or  international wrestling experience.
  •  Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and a commitment to adhere to all rules and regulations of the University of Iowa, the Big Ten Conference, and the NCAA;
  • Proven leadership ability;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as demonstrated through public speaking engagements, clinician experience, and/or use of effective and creative training/coaching techniques;
  • Professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trusting relationships;
  • Working knowledge of and ability to:
    • Utilize basic office support software (word processing, email, presentation software and spreadsheets)
    • Operate effectively within a highly regulated team environment.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years’ experience working closely with a collegiate Division I wrestling program;
  • Demonstrated success in student-athlete recruitment;
  • Experience in video analysis or the development and management of social media sites.
  •  A valid U.S. driving license and the ability to meet and maintain University of Iowa Driving Policy (https://opsmanual.uiowa.edu/administrative-financial-and-facilities-policies/risk-management-insurance-and-loss-prevention-5) standards.
  • Genuine passion for and experience with supporting the holistic development of student-athletes, recognizing the interconnectedness of mental health and overall well-being.
