Ballet and Pointe Instructors

The University of Iowa Youth Ballet and Community Dance School is a non-profit outreach organization within the Department of Dance. As an organization dedicated to community building, we are devoted to instructing both classical and contemporary dance forms. Our mission is to inspire a passion for movement practice, kindle curiosity about dance, and support the professional development of educators to contribute to the field. We offer classes for students aged 2–18 and adults of all ages, including eight levels of classical ballet. 

We are looking to hire one or more Ballet and Pointe Instructors with interest in and experience teaching youth and adults. The ideal candidate must have a background in ballet and pointe instruction and should be interested in continuing to develop their teaching using current best practices. There are additional opportunities to teach modern, creative dance for children, and to choreograph for twice-yearly youth ballet productions. The candidate must be available to teach classes one or more weeknights after 5:00 PM (class times vary by day) and/or Saturdays, starting in mid-August 2026.

Position Details:

• Hours: 6–8 hours per week, with the possibility of additional hours, depending on experience and availability.
• Pay: $16–25 per hour, based on experience
• Employment Type: Employee of the University of Iowa (includes tax advantages over independent contracting)
