My name is Nozomi Tanaka, and I am an Associate Professor of Linguistics in the Department of Languages, Linguistics, Literatures, and Cultures at the University of Iowa. I am also an alumna of the University of Hawai‘i.

I am currently looking a research assistant to support a pilot study involving data collection from Tagalog-English bilingual children (ages 3–10) on O‘ahu. The study will use child-friendly language tasks and interviews to gather data on bilingual language development for a future grant proposal.

Qualifications:

• Must be authorized to work in the United States

• Proficient in both Tagalog and English

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience working with children

• Connection to local Filipino communities

Details:

• Compensation: $25/hour

• Time commitment: Estimated at 30–45 hours, including training, data collection, and travel. Actual hours may vary depending on commute distance and the research assistant’s availability and scheduling preferences.

• Flexible scheduling, with data collection to be completed by the end of the year

• Transportation and other necessary research expenses will be covered

Individuals who assist with this pilot study will be invited to continue in a similar role for the subsequent depending on their availability.
