The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a patient centered PRN Athletic Trainer to work within our specialty clinics supporting our Sports Medicine Orthopedic Clinic in Cedar Rapids. This position will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team and provide direct assistance to other medical providers such as physicians, advanced practice providers, physical therapists, and medical assistants in providing care for our patients at the Cedar Rapids Orthopedic Clinic. We offer our patients comprehensive care teams which includes orthopedic physicians, physical therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and other advanced care providers. For more than 100 years, the Department of Orthopedics and Rehabilitation has provided some of the most advanced care by using state-of-the-art approaches to treatment. 

Duties to include:

•  Perform initial patient intake including assessment, medical history, and physical examination.
• Present patient to supervising provider including history, physical exam, pertinent test results, and working diagnosis.
• Collaborate with attending provider to determine appropriate treatment plan, communicate with patient, and provide further home exercise/rehabilitation instruction as needed.
• Collaborate with attending provider to apply or remove splints/casts/braces and fit crutches. Provide product education.
• Remove sutures and provide appropriate wound care and dressing changes.
• Assist physician in procedures as needed including preparing materials for pre- and post-injections and sutures, and preparation of patients’ treatment site.
• Document clinic patient visit according to documentation policies. Collect data and transcribe in the electronic medical record for LIP with appropriate cosign.
• Develop and distribute ongoing patient centered educational information including exercise instruction, gait training, wound care, and concussion management per the treating provider.
• Coordinate and prepare patient medical records and imaging from outside providers prior to appointments to expedite clinic efficiency.
• Communicate via compliant phone/electronic means with patient, family, and their medical staff to follow up and enhance continuity of care.
• Knowledge of health care policies for all clinical practices and applicable laws and regulations governing proper clinical practice; ability to demonstrate ethical behavior in situations.
• Providing support to other clinics to include but limited to: Urgent Care Clinics, QuickCare Clinics, etc.
• Other duties as assigned.

Percent of Time: PRN (minimum 20 hours per month) 

Schedule: Monday - Friday, Variable hours between 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM; no holidays; no weekends; no on call

Location: Cedar Rapids, IA (and surrounding clinics based on clinical need/hours)

Pay Grade: 4A - https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans (https://hr.uiowa.edu/pay/plans)

Salary $22.33/hr - $46.77/hr (based on years of experience)

Education

• A Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training.
  • Master’s degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is desired.

Required Qualifications

• 1 - 3 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer.
• Working knowledge of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Board Certified Athletic Trainer.
• Experience working in a physician practice setting.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Iowa Athletic Trainer License, or license eligible.
• CPR/BLS certification.
• Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
• Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours.

Desired Qualifications

• Completion of an Athletic Training Residency Program.
• 3 - 5 years of experience as certified Athletic Trainer.
• OTC Certification.
• Previous Epic experience.
• Previous casting experience.
