8 week Internship with UI Libraries

Description

This internship will focus on conservation activities and workflows persistent in a large research library collection. In order to understand the reach and impact of Conservation and Collections Care, the internship will explore relationships and collaborations between other departments throughout the Libraries.  Treatments will include a variety of projects, some being production based or project based, and at various levels of complexity. Treatments may include cleaning, mending, structural repairs (leather and cloth), enclosures, encapsulation, or adhesive removal for books and paper materials. Exhibit treatment, stabilization, and mounting of materials for display may also be covered. Engagement in consultation and departmental meetings, as well as visits to UICB (University of Iowa Center for the Book) facilities will also be included.
