The Department of Rehabilitation Therapies at the University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus is looking for PRN Staff Occupational Therapists or PRN Senior Occupational Therapists to evaluate and treat patients with complex physical dysfunctions, disorders and/or injuries.

This position will be assigned to the inpatient orthopedics setting.

This position will be stationed at our new North Liberty Medical Campus

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides quality patient care, evaluation, assessment, and treatment appropriate for patients’ needs.
  • Evaluates and instructs patients in appropriate treatment plans in order to achieve treatment goals.
  • Participates in divisional quality/process improvement activities and recommends opportunities for improvement in service quality.
  • Attends and participates in educational programs and provides educational experiences as assigned.
  • Demonstrates respect for all members of the University community in the course of performing one’s duties and in response to administrators, supervisors, coworkers, and customers.
  • Welcomes the richness of talent from a diverse workforce and recognizes that diversity brings stimulation, challenge, and energy that contribute to a productive and effective workplace.

The department intends to hire one person at either the Occupational Therapist or Senior Occupational Therapist level based on the qualifications of the successful candidate. Please specify in your cover letter which specific position for which you wish to be considered or both.

The new University of Iowa Health Care North Liberty Campus will open in the Spring of 2025.  This 469,000 square foot facility will be home to UI Health Care’s nationally recognized Orthopedics service line, offering comprehensive, coordinated, and accessible care across the outpatient, inpatient and surgical venues. Type of Position: Temporary: A staff member may serve in temporary status in a continuous appointment for no more than one year to meet an emergency or temporary need of the University. Employees in this classification will not be eligible for University Benefits.

 

Staff Occupational Therapist Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Entry level experience in acute care hospital setting
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Licensure in accordance with the Iowa Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy is required. 

  

Staff Occupational Therapist Desirable Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years experience as an Occupational Therapist
  • 1-3 years experience in evaluation and treatment of patients in an inpatient orthopedics setting.
  • Ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrated leadership in a work or academic setting.

 

Senior Occupational Therapist Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Occupational Therapy is required.
  • Reasonable experience (2 or more years)  as an Occupational Therapist in an acute care hospital setting with a high degree of understanding and skill in one or more areas of assigned responsibility.
  • Demonstrated clinical education abilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a work or academic setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Licensure in accordance with the Iowa Board of Physical and Occupational Therapy is required. 

 

Senior Occupational Therapist Desirable Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience as an Occupational Therapist with advanced understanding and skill in providing occupational therapy primarily to adults in an inpatient acute care setting.
  • Reasonable (1-3 years) experience in evaluation and treatment of patients in inpatient orthopedics.
  • Ability to practice in an autonomous manner.
  • Demonstrated efficiency in the provision of patient care.
  • Demonstrated effort to enhance one’s own knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Demonstrated program/service development or quality improvement projects.
