The Iowa Summer Writing Festival is a noncredit creative writing program for adults housed in The University of Iowa's Magid Center for Writing. The program offers intensive workshops in literary craft to writers at all levels of literary practice, across the spectrum of literary genres. The Iowa Summer Writing Festival seeks instructors for online and in-person programming. Instructors will receive compensation commensurate with experience, subject to tax withholding.

To be considered for teaching, applicants will:

  • hold the terminal degree in Creative Writing: M.F.A. or M.A. (English/Creative Writing).
  • possess a minimum of three years teaching experience at the college and/or graduate level in any of the following genres: fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, screenwriting, playwriting, writing for children. Experience teaching adult learners is a community setting is highly desirable, as is teaching in a short-term format.
  • have published creative work in a minimum of three nationally recognized literary magazines or a minimum of one book in the applicant's primary genre.
  • need to relocate to Iowa City for one or more weeklong or weekend session, if teaching in-person.
