The University of Iowa Community Clinics (UICC) is seeking a HOURLY (PRN) - Staff Nurse (10 - 20 hours per week) to work evenings at our UICC Pediatric Associates Clinic. 

The hours for this position will primarily be clinics hours from 11:30 AM to 8:00 PM with occasional standard 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM hours. Weekend hours available (but not required) Saturday from 7:00 AM to 12:00 PM and Sunday from 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM.


Our nurses develop relationships and get to know our patients. Our pediatricians specialize in the care of infants, children, and adolescents and UICC LPN's help them provide a range of services from well-child care, to basic childhood immunizations and illnesses, to managing complex medical conditions and chronic disorders.

Our pediatricians are members of the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital team which means they work hand-in-hand with all pediatric specialists at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The use of one electronic medical record for each patient ensures constant and timely communication between your child’s entire medical team.

Our nurses accompany the physicians or medical providers into the examination rooms in order to transcribe the clinician’s and care team’s encounter with the patients in real time. They accurately and thoroughly document the encounter with our patients as it is being performed by the providers, which may include documentation in the following sections: problem list, history of present illness, review of systems, physical exam, assessment and plan, procedures and treatments performed by team, patient education, orders, medications, referrals, explanations of risks and benefits, and instructions for self-care and follow-up.

Assess patients’ nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory and research into clinical practice. Provide leadership to members of the nursing team in order to maintain patient care standards.

Percent of Time: 25% (10 - 20 hours per week) 

Schedule: Evening shifts, Monday - Friday, work hours completed from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM (as needed), ability to work weekdays with hours from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM as needed, no on-call time.

Salary: $25.34 up to $50.00 
 
Qualifications - External
Education
An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, a Diploma in Nursing, a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN), Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required.

Required Qualifications
Current license to practice in the state of Iowa by the time of hire.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members as demonstrated through written and verbal interactions.
General computer skills are required.
Current course completion card in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association

Desired Qualifications

·         Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing is desired.
If Baccalaureate degree in Nursing is not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable.

·         1 - 3 years of pediatric nursing experience.

·         Ambulatory nursing care experience, including telephone triage experience in the outpatient setting.
