The University of Iowa Community Clinics is seeking a patient centered Hourly/PRN Imaging Technologist (10-20 hours per week) to work in our UICC Johnston Clinic. This position is responsible for perform diagnostic imaging procedures utilizing advanced imaging technology/equipment, explain examination procedures to patients and monitor their status, and instruct students and staff on examination and equipment operations and ensures all imaging protocols are being used correctly. Position Responsibilities:

  • Manipulate, adjust and control the complex electronic computerized components of the imaging system to produce patient examinations and research project while performing quality assurance procedures and evaluating system performance throughout the working day. This includes independent operation with minimal physician supervision.
  • Safety precautions are used to minimize or eliminate risks to patients, personnel or equipment.
  • Maintain records and results of examinations and archive computer data.
  • Establish rapport with patient and provide information about how the exam is performed and is required of the patient.
  • Plan daily regular and STAT scheduling for efficient room utilization.
  • Assist management with inventory, ordering supplies and maintaining quality assurance in accordance with hospital, department and area standards.
  • Participate in on-call coverage as needed
  • Provide instruction to trainees, students and other medical staff on operation and safety precautions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of developments in specialty imaging area and related subjects with periodic software updates by attending meetings, continuing education programs, participates in professional organizations and/or reviews journals and publications.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Follow general policies and procedures in accordance with regulations of the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, and the Department of Radiology and UICC Radiology.
  • Assists registered nurses, paramedics, and LIPs in the delivery of patient care, with regard to patient condition and age.
  • Performs related and routine clerical tasks pursuant to performing the aforementioned duties.
  • Collects and processes routine laboratory testing (urinalysis, blood tests, etc.) on clinical biological specimens such as blood and body fluids.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with faculty, staff, students and the public.
  • Follows general policies and procedures in accordance with regulations of the University Of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, the Department of Radiology and General Radiology.

Pay Grade: 23 /

Salary: $19.99 - $38.21 (based on years of experience)

Percent of Time: Hourly / PRN

Schedule: Variable shifts and hours between Monday - Friday and hours between 0700 and 1630. No Holidays, No Weekends, No On-call Time.


Education Required:

  • Successful completion of two-year or other approved program by Joint Review Committee in Radiologic technology education is required.

Experience Requirements:

  • Certification or eligibility for certification in diagnostic procedures by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist is required. Permit to practice in the State of Iowa for all radiographers operating ionizing radiation emitting equipment is required.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-based setting.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Membership in appropriate professional organizations desired.
  • Willingness to train in additional modalities.
