POSITION SUMMARY: The Division of Student Life; Rape Victim Advocacy Program is seeking a Temporary On-Call Direct Services Advocate to coordinate and provide medical, legal, personal, and system advocacy, and other direct services to sexual assault victims/survivors in RVAP’s southeast Iowa service area. Must be able to take call shifts on a rotational basis with other staff members and respond as quickly as possible (generally within 20 minutes when responding in-person and within 20 minutes with responding via telehealth) to medical and law enforcement locations throughout Johnson, Iowa, and Cedar counties.

 

Duties to include:

  • Records information on call sheets in a timely manner.
  • Provides confidential advocacy and crisis counseling to victims/survivors of sexual violence, dating violence, stalking, and gendered violence.
  • Provides on call direct service on a pre-scheduled rotating basis with other rural on-call staff members outside normal office hours.
  • Assists with long and short term agency projects.
  • Participate in assessment and planning of program and services.
  • Collaborates with community agencies to increase access to services for underserved and marginalized communities.
  • Completes annual continuing education requirements (1 yearly meeting and two 1 hour trainings on a topic related to sexual violence work).
  • Provides direct services to clients including crisis line, medical, legal, personal, and system based advocacy.
  • Provide on call direct service on a pre-scheduled rotating basis.
  • Submits timesheets and other required forms and vouchers to RVAP main office as required by procedure.
  • Complete all department program logs, timesheets, forms and other documentation for assigned areas by established deadlines.

 

POSITION BASICS:

Hourly Rate/Range: $25 per shift plus, plus $16.91 hourly

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

Hours: Varies depending on the number of advocacy calls

Shift: On call shifts are 5:00 pm to 8:00 am 

Work Week: Works mostly nights and one weekend per month

Additional Hours: As needed

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED with at least 6 months of experience in human services or related field.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and respond quickly and effectively to challenges and deadlines.
  • Experience with standard office computer applications.
  • Ability to complete RVAP Advocate training within the first six months of employment.
  • Available transportation to respond to advocacy calls.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of the communication techniques and relationship building skills that develop the ability to work with a variety of individuals, groups, and diverse backgrounds in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Commitment to and alignment with the values of the Division of Student Life, including a demonstrated commitment to excellence through diversity, equity and inclusion.

 

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated work experience (typically 6 mo-1year) providing counseling and /or advocacy to survivors in a rape crisis center or similar setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to utilize various methods to deliver learning solutions for desired training outcomes.
  • Work experience in a confidential environment.
  • Bi-lingual skills in a foreign language.
