Pay is commensurate with experience, starting at $19.82 per hour.
Position Specific Summary
This is a project management position primarily responsible for overseeing field data collection for an agricultural injury study. Specific responsibilities include: developing field data collection protocols and procedures, maintaining the cash handling plan according to University of Iowa requirements for paying participant incentives, developing and maintaining a data tracking system for participant sampling and recruitment, managing field data (e.g., performing quality checks), managing project resources, assisting in the completion of progress reports and other reporting documentation, preparing agendas for weekly project meetings, and managing two field staff.
Key Areas of Responsibilities and Specific Job Tasks
Oversee a primary data collection epidemiologic research study, including developing field data collection protocols and procedures, developing data collection instruments, developing and maintaining a data tracking system for participant sampling and recruitment, and managing field data collection
Conduct literature searches using common library databases (e.g., PubMed) and summarize the literature.
Experiments, Investigations, Evaluations
Assure fidelity to field data collection protocols.
Monitor field data collection activity and quality.
Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications
Oversee data collection.
Initiate the design and content for materials mailed and communicated to study participants.
Develop summary reports for study participants.
Perform data management and coding of qualitative and quantitative data.
Assist in completing progress reports and other reporting documentation to the funding source.
Assist in preparing publications and presentations.
Administrative and Project Management
Manage project resources.
Maintain a cash handling plan according to University of Iowa requirements for paying participant incentives.
Communicate with and prepare materials for Iowa Social Science Research Center (service center screening and recruiting study participants).
Prepare agendas for weekly project meetings.
Assist in the planning and preparation of budgets.
Assure safety and compliance; respond to compliance and safety violations.
Facilities and Equipment Management
Manage project resources.
Manage two field staff.
Participate in hiring, developing and managing the performance of staff.
Assure staff are compliant with UI policies and procedures.
Education or Equivalency Required
A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Agricultural Safety and Health or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
A minimum of 2 years of project management experience in public health or medical/clinical research.
Ability to travel throughout Iowa and provide valid U.S. driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience supervising staff and/or students.
Demonstrated attention to detail, accuracy and strong organizational skills.
Experience with personal computers and a working knowledge of word processing (Word) and database management software (RedCap or Access).
Master’s degree in Public Health or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge of farming and/or agricultural populations.
