This is an hourly position.

Basic Function and Responsibility

Assist in program development and therapeutic interventions for adults with mental illnesses on an inpatient psychiatric unit.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop programs by organizing group activities incorporating therapeutic strategies, and coordinating with other professionals. Programming will include small group activities to engage patients and staff in therapeutic programming.
  • Perform coaching of staff on the unit (e.g., motivational, health) with supervision. Provide materials to staff on the unit to help with generalization of programming and therapeutic techniques.
  • Assure quality in program delivery by exploring evidence based practices including Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to implement programming with a wide variety of patients.
  • Manages patient information, including writing daily progress notes for patient’s chart as appropriate.
  • Assists in coordinating and providing training to family members and care providers as appropriate. This may include teaching specific skills or behavior strategies that were helpful for an individual patient
  • Assists in the creation of training materials and conducting training as appropriate.



  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, education, psychology or other related field or an equivalent combination of education and training.


  • Experience working with adults with mental illnesses.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills; including demonstrated positive interpersonal skills and experience leading and/or participating as a member of work teams and groups.
  • Proficiency in computer software applications, including demonstrated experience using email, spreadsheet and word processing programs and using the internet for conducting research and locating resources.
  • Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment


  • Experience with program development or education/training for patients and staff
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures and regulations is desired.
