Working Title Career Advisor

The Pomerantz Career Center ( mission is to assist the University of Iowa with enrollment management by empowering undergraduate students to become leaders, maximize their potential, and achieve professional success. We accomplish this through professional advising, innovative and experiential education, and the development of extraordinary relationships with our stakeholders.

The PCC is seeking a temporary Career Advisor to work 50% (20 hours per week) for an anticipated 9 month period (may be increased/extended based on review after 6mo.).

This career advisor will:Provide comprehensive career advising to broad and diverse undergraduate student population. Help students identify and pursue career goals and appropriate educational and experiential preparation. Create, facilitate and evaluate career education workshops. Guide students in the internship/job search/graduate school admission process by assisting them with resumes, developing search strategies, networking and interviewing skills. Maintain outreach with assigned academic departments. Collaborate with campus partners including academic departments/faculty. Work with office team and career community advising partner to help plan, staff and promote large events and encourage campus-wide utilization of career services.

Foster a Sense of Community and Engagement for Student;Establish and Maintain Relationships with Partners to Provide Educational Support Services; andStudent Growth, Development and Success.

Required Position Qualifications

A Master’s degree in Student Development, Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing a comparable level of career advising expertise.

Experience (typically 1-3 years) in career/educational counseling setting or human resources/recruiting/training role.

Demonstrates a working ( knowledge and ability to provide career advice, coaching, and career development counseling to students.

Demonstrates a working ( proficiency in communication techniques (including excellent written and verbal communication skills) and relationship building skills that enables the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner at an extensive proficiency level.

Desired Position Qualifications

Demonstrates a working ( knowledge and the ability to plan, manage educational/instructional programs and facilitation.

Demonstrates a working ( proficiency in the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and civil manner while appreciating the unique contribution of individuals from varied cultures, race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
