Opening for postdoctoral fellows at the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa, USA.
Our research group is looking for talented post-doctoral researchers to develop image analysis and machine learning algorithms to study the role of lung biomechanics in early and advanced chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). We are particularly interested in individuals with experience in pulmonary image segmentation and registration, soft tissue biomechanics, tissue motion modeling, and disease trajectory models.
The postdoctoral fellowships will provide an opportunity to work in a diverse interdisciplinary team with faculty collaborators from across the University of Iowa, including researchers from the Colleges of Engineering and Medicine and from the Iowa Institute of Biomedical Imaging (IIBI).
An ideal candidate will be highly motivated and have a strong background in medical image processing and/or tissue biomechanics. Candidates must be able to communicate well and be able to work independently and on multi-disciplinary teams. Candidates must be able to design, test, and document complex software systems, and deploy such systems to solve clinical problems. Experience with GPU-based computing and high-performance computing clusters is a plus.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
The positions will have initial appointments of one year with the opportunity for reappointment if skills, mutual interest, and performance allow. Positions are available starting in immediately and are available until filled. All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply.
