University of Iowa Department of Surgery



Division of Gastrointestinal, Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery



The Department of Surgery, Division of Gastrointestinal, Minimally Invasive, and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Iowa invites applicants interested in a faculty position in the areas of Bariatric and General Surgery. Appointment will be for Assistant or Associate Professor in either the clinical-track or tenure track consistent with experience and research interest. This position will join a growing program involved in developing a multi-disciplinary, institutional center for the treatment of digestive diseases. The University of Iowa Bariatric Surgery Program is a MBSAQIP-accredited Comprehensive Center. We are seeking a MIS/Bariatric fellowship-trained candidate to meet the growing demands for our bariatric surgery program.   Candidates should be well-trained to perform sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-y gastric bypass, bariatric revisional surgery, and be able to manage complications at the tertiary referral level. There will be additional opportunity to develop a practice that includes general and foregut surgery.



Iowa City is the site of the first state capital and is a cultural hub within the state as well as the home of the world famous Iowa Writers Workshop. It retains its Big Ten college town charm and is home to many collegiate athletic events, outdoor activities, arts, literature, and music. Education Requirement:

Applicants must have a medical doctorate from an approved medical college, have completed training in all phases of General Surgery, as well as sub-specialty training in Bariatric and/or Minimally Invasive Surgery.

Required Qualifications:

Applicants will need to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills and experience working effectively in a diverse environment.  Experience in research at a level which enables procurement of outside funding is required for tenure track appointments.

Certifications:

Applicants must be board-eligible or board-certified in General Surgery from the American Board of Surgery.

Desirable Qualifications:

1-3 years of experience as a bariatric surgeon is highly desired.   Applicants with established research are preferred.
