Position Description:

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a pediatric infectious diseases specialist at the rank of Associate (non track), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (tenure or non-tenure/clinical track). Opportunities exist for either a clinician or a physician-scientist.  The individual selected will join the Division of Infectious Diseases to provide patient care, teaching, and consultative services as an infectious disease physician. The Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases currently participates in both patient care and basic science research in the areas of fungal pathogenesis and antifungal drug discovery, host-pathogen interactions, and virology.  In addition, the group participates in clinical trials evaluating new antimicrobial drugs.



The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 42nd overall and 20th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY16.  The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 12th among public institutions for FY2016, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 21st overall and 11th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY16. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.



The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.  University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center.  In 2016-17 University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in eight pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 189-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017.

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa

Certifications:

Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent



Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Infectious Disease or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications:

Clinical experience in pediatric infectious disease



Experience in patient-oriented or laboratory-based research



Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents



Evidence of scholarly activity



Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills



Ability to develop and implement new programs



Interest and/or experience in antimicrobial stewardship
