Position Description:

The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a Division Director of Medical Genetics at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor (tenure or non-tenure/clinical track).  The Director will lead the Division’s clinical and teaching services as well as provide leadership to the research program. The Director will benefit from significant institutional resources and will have the opportunity to recruit additional faculty. The Division anticipates clinical growth in the next few years following the recent opening of a new free-standing Children’s Hospital in February 2017, and a new outpatient clinic.



The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 42nd overall and 20th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY16.  The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 12th among public institutions for FY2016, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 22nd overall and 11th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY16. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 47 pediatric residents.



The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.  University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center.  In 2016-17 University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in eight pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 189-bed children’s hospital opened in February 2017. 

Education Requirement:

Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent

Required Qualifications:

License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa



Demonstrated experience promoting a diverse workforce/academic environment

Certifications:

Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent



Board certification/eligibility by the ABMGG in Clinical or Biochemical Genetics, or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications:

Clinical experience in medical genetics



Experience in patient-oriented research



Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents



Evidence of scholarly activity



Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
