Position Description:

The Carver College of Medicine at The University of Iowa seeks candidates for the position of Director of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism in the Department of Internal Medicine. The Carver College of Medicine is among the top ten public medical schools in National Institutes of Health funding. The Department of Internal Medicine is an integral part of UI Health Care which is a partnership between the College of Medicine and The University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is one of the largest teaching hospitals in the United States and has close affiliation with the adjacent Iowa City Veterans Affairs Medical Center. With approximately 20 faculty, the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism has an exceptional record of achievement in research, patient care and teaching, as well as a distinguished record of national and international leadership. Multiple division faculty direct various NIH and VA funded research endeavors spanning bench to bedside. The division benefits from a close association with the University of Iowa Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center. The division prides itself in participating in a program that is vigorous, friendly, and open to those who wish to seek answers to important clinical and biological problems.

The Director is the spokesperson for the faculty of the Division. As the College of Medicine is the major academic medical center in the state of Iowa, the Director serves as a key leader in interactions with endocrinologists throughout the state. Responsibilities include faculty evaluation, recruitment and appointments; educational, clinical and research programs; fiscal planning and management; and short term and long term strategic planning.

Education Requirement:

MD or MD/PhD degree

Required Qualifications:

•A record consistent with appointment as a tenured associate or full professor of internal medicine.

•An outstanding record of accomplishments in teaching, research, and service.

•An exceptional program in clinical or laboratory-based research.

•Must have the demonstrated capacity to foster an environment in which excellence in teaching, research, and scholarship can flourish.

•Must have experience and interest in developing and leading clinical programs.

•A demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse academic environment is required.

•The successful candidates will have a national stature in academic internal medicine.

•Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy interactions with students, staff and faculty.

•Must have a record of innovative and effective administrative experience.

•Must be eligible for licensure in Iowa and must be authorized to work in the United States.


Must possess board certification in their specialty area or be in the process of obtaining it.
