The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics seeks a pediatric hematologist/oncologist with special interest in childhood leukemia/lymphoma at the rank of Associate (non-tenure), Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (tenure or non-tenure track). The individual selected will join the Division of Hematology/Oncology to provide patient care, teaching, and inpatient and outpatient consultative services as a pediatric leukemia/lymphoma specialist. Pediatric leukemia/lymphoma providers will provide clinical care services in the new University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, as part of a multi-disciplinary team of healthcare providers actively involved in both clinical care and research activities. The comprehensive hematology/oncology clinics provide high quality care to a diverse patient population, including those with leukemia/lymphoma disorders and diagnoses.
The University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is one of the top biomedical research institutions in the nation and ranked 39th overall and 18th among public medical schools for NIH funding in FY15. The U.S. News and World Report research ranking places the College 12th among public institutions for FY2016, and the Stead Family Department of Pediatrics ranked 22nd overall and 10th in NIH funding among all public pediatric departments nationwide in FY15. The ACGME-accredited pediatric residency program at the Children’s Hospital trains 43 pediatric residents.
The Stead Family Department of Pediatrics comprises the medical and research staff of UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital is one of the nation’s top-ranked pediatric care and research institutions. It is the only university-affiliated hospital in Iowa devoted solely to the care of infants, children, adolescents and young adults, and is Iowa’s only accredited Level 1 Regional Resource Pediatric Trauma Center. In 2016-17 University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital ranked in eight pediatric specialties in the Best Children’s Hospitals U.S. News and World Report, including cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, neonatology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology, and urology, and is the only hospital in Iowa to be nationally ranked by U.S. News and World Report for children’s care. A new 189-bed children’s hospital is scheduled to open in early 2017.
Must hold an MD/DO degree, or equivalent
License or eligible for licensure in the State of Iowa
Board certified or eligible in Pediatrics, or equivalent
Board certified or eligible in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, or equivalent
Clinical experience in pediatric leukemia/lymphoma
Experience in patient-oriented research
Teaching competence in pediatrics for medical students and residents
Evidence of scholarly activity
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
