Position Description:

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine is seeking a highly qualified person at the Professor level to join our tenure track as the Vice Chair for Research.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight of all clinical, basic and translational research faculty within the department. This person will also serve on the Department’s Executive Committee. The successful candidate will be asked to increase the relevance of the department’s research by increasing the involvement of the faculty in the department’s clinical, basic and translational research program. He or she will develop and implement a plan to increase the department’s NIH funding base to a level that places it within the top tier of OB/GYN department’s nationally. The Vice Chair will mentor residents, fellows, and junior faculty members who wish to develop clinical, basic and translational research.

Education Requirement:

M.D., Ph.D., M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven track record in federal grant support, including current active NIH funding.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Excellent leadership skills.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse environment including knowledge of the principles of affirmative action and equal opportunities.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of effective strategies for working with diverse faculty, staff and students and commitment to diversity in the educational community.


Desirable Qualifications:

At least two RO1 grants or equivalent are desired.
