University of Iowa Informatics Cluster Hire Initiative



Recruiting Nurse Faculty in Informatics



The University of Iowa (UI) College of Nursing is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position for junior or senior faculty in nursing with a focus in informatics to contribute and/or lead research teams across campus by bringing an understanding of informatics and data science along with expertise in clinical areas such as health care systems, symptom management of chronic conditions, and healthcare of populations such as children, vulnerable women, and older adults.  Knowledge of the role and application of informatics and data science is needed not only by researchers, but also by our students and practicing nurses.    As a major research university, we are well positioned to support faculty candidates who have existing or developing research programs in informatics to support the mission of the college and contribute to the teaching, research, and services initiatives.  The University of Iowa College of Nursing is committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in achieving our education, research, service and practice missions.  The College of Nursing’s commitment to diversity is a shared value as demonstrated through our Pillars of Diversity. 



The Iowa Informatics Initiative is a bold, campus-wide initiative designed to foster new collaborations to open new research and scholarship opportunities across campus from health care to digital arts and humanities, and to educate and train the next generation workforce with the skills to transform information into knowledge and actions. Participation in the Informatics Cluster facilitates collaborations with experts in various fields relevant for successful research in this expanding field. The successful candidate for this position will contribute to academic programming on informatics content in the undergraduate and graduate programs in the College, participate in the interdisciplinary activities of the Informatics Cluster Hire, collaborate with the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Informatics (IGPI) and provide the liaison between the College of Nursing faculty with research activities related to informatics and data science and the informatics cluster. 



 As a leader in nursing education, research, and practice innovations, The UI College of Nursing has received national recognition by U.S. News & World Report ranking several UI College of Nursing graduate programs among the best in the nation in comparison to all public and private schools.  External funding is robust, and in 2015, The College of Nursing ranked 20th in the nation in NIH funding.  Areas of research excellence in the College of Nursing include gerontology, health systems improvement and pain, palliative care and symptom management.  Emerging areas of emphasis include management of chronic conditions and health promotion in at-risk populations.  Cross cutting approaches include applied genomics/omics/biomarkers, health information technology and community engagement.

Education Requirement:

Earned doctorate in nursing or a doctorate in a related field 

Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in a defined area of nursing.

Desirable Qualifications:

Graduate degree in nursing from an accredited school of nursing



Recognized record of accomplishment via publication in leading journals



Ability to establish or maintain an extramurally-funded research program



Eligible for or currently licensed to practice nursing in the State of Iowa
